FjordExplorerCedar-200x69

All our rafts are Alpacka brand packrafts, in our opinion the best backcountry boats available. We run two sizes of rafts. For larger individuals (6'+), or for special applications such as ferrying two people on river crossings, packing extra weight, or floating game out of a hunt, go with the larger Denali Llama. If you plan to travel raft with a child or dog, or are bringing a lot of equipment along, we have the Fjord Explorer, Alpacka's longest, fastest, and most stable raft.  For those under 6' tall, the mid-sized, but still substantial, Yukon Yak will be just right. If you’re 5’11 1/2 just go with the Llama- it’s better to have too much space than too little. However, make sure not to over-boat yourself unnecessarily. Every ounce counts when packing on long treks. If you still can't decide between Llama and Yak, it's not worth lost sleep -- the Llama is just 4 inches longer and 4 ounces heavier than the Yak. Each raft will come with a lightweight inflation bag, and a patch kit.

When planning your packing space, here are some size details on each raft that may help.

  • Denali Llama: 6 lb (with seat attached); outer length 96 in; inner length 51 in; roll down size 8 inch diameter by 24 inch length
  • Yukon Yak: 5 lb 12 oz (with seat attached); outer length 92 in; inner length 47 in; roll down size 8 inch diameter by 24 inch length
  • Fjord Explorer: 6 lb 7 oz (with seat attached); outer length 111 in; inner length 51 in; roll down size 8 inch diameter by 24 inch length

Alpacka Gnu two-person, canoe-style packraft (whitewater deck not available)GnuDigiCamo

LIMITED INVENTORY- BOOK EARLY! The Alpacka Gnu is a canoe-style, two-person packraft great for a variety of uses.  The Gnu is incredibly fast with a hull speed almost double the regular rafts.  This versatile boat is great for long expeditions, hunting, fishing, adventure racing, flat-water cruising, and can comfortably ferry three people across flat-water.  For fishing expeditions the person in the bow kneels and casts, while the person in the rear sits on the stern, using a kayak paddle to navigate.  These rafts can sneak into all kinds of holes along the riverbank.  Each raft will come with a lightweight inflation bag, and a patch kit.  Be sure to rent the Aquabound Shred Apart kayak paddle that easily converts into two canoe paddles.

While the Gnu fits two people, it has the benefit of only being slightly heavier and larger to pack up than a single-person raft.  The Gnu size specs are: 8 lb 14 oz; outer length 118 in; inner length 58 in; roll down size 11 in diameter by 24 in length.

Damages and Loss

Hiking up a mountain

Trust, us, we're cool.  We won't fault you for the regular wear and tear that happens when you're having a great time outdoors.  However for damage and replacement, here is our policy:

  • If any equipment is lost and/or damaged/rendered permanently unusable, the charge will be equivalent to the replacement value of the entire item.
  • If a part is broken or lost and can be replaced, the cost of the part will be assigned as a damage fee.  Renters will be contacted within a week with the total fee amount.  Fees will be charged to the credit card on hold used for deposit for the gear.
  • Renters who return excessively dirty or wet equipment will be charged a cleaning fee of a maximum of $20 per item.  Renters are strongly encouraged to clean and dry all rented equipment items.
  • We ask that you sign a waiver before using our gear.  To check that out, click here.

The price for any of these fees is completely dependent on the item and the amount of damage to it, so we can't give exact numbers here.  Just be reasonably cautious with your gear; don't use your paddle to push off of rocks; and dry everything really well before you ship it back, and you'll be set!
